problems getting started with word

i'm using vista w/ms office 2007. when attempting to create a word document,
every time the space bar is depressed after a word or letter, message "please
wait while setup prepares the necessary files" is flashed for the next 30-45
seconds..
Has anypne encountered this problem and knows a corrective solution?

It suggests that the spell checker (or grammar checker) is try to check that
word and proofing tools are not installed correctly (or not at all). Test
this by disabling Check Spelling as You Type and Check Grammar with Spelling
(Word Options, Proofing tab).
