Problems entering url sfter IE start

C

Immediately after starting IE, if I start typing a url
into the address field, IE changes the text back to the
default home page url.

Example:
1) Start IE, it loads my default home page (a small and
simple local html file in my case).
2) Immediately after IE starts, click in the Address field
and start typing a url.
3) After 1-2 seconds, IE replaces whatever I've typed with
the default home page url, with the url selected.

This results in my trying to type (as an example)
www.microsoft.com, but when I get www.mic typed out, IE
does it's thing as I continue typing the url, and I'm left
with rosoft.com in the field.

I hope that's clear...

I think it does that for everyone. Just a symptom of a
slow browser -- the page hasn't finished loading yet.

When you begin typing another URL, the page is still
working, so when it completes loading, the address of the
last page which has loaded (the home page) snaps into
place again.

You can do one of three things that I know of.

1. Wait until the page finishes loading, and then type the
new URL.
2. As soon as the browser window is open, hit the Stop
button to abort the loading. Then type.
3. Tools/Internet Options/General > under Home page >
click the Use Blank button. Then nothing will load when
the window opens, and you should be able to type in the
address bar without problems.

Hope that helps!

Bonnie,

I think I have the same problem, if I enter a URL into the address box with
http:// before the address then the connection sails through and the page
loads. If however I just type in www... etc, then I can wait up to 5
minutes for the address to be resolved and go through to the web page. If I
use favourite links, then there is no problem, but then they all start
with http://..... Hope this helps until someone can tell me how to solve
the root cause of the problem, without having to go to the trouble of
reinstalling XP again.

Tony

Hi there,

I've just run the error checking tool from the properties box on my C Drive.
It took a long while. But when I logged on again the problem with the URL
stuff appears to be fixed! Time will tell.

Regards,

Tony
