Typing into address bar??

Weird thing started happening.
When attempting to type in an address in the address bar,
IE allows a few moments of typing and then highlights the
entire text, concequently the next key you type wipes out
what you have already typed.
Eg. goto type in "www.microsoft.com"
you get as far as
www.mic
then its highlighted and you continue typing you get
"rosoft.com"
This just started a few days ago. Have turned off the
autofill but no effect.
Anyone have any suggestions?
