Problems entering standby

I recently installed an HP f1903 flat panel displat on my
Win 2K SP4 system. I am now getting the error message

System Standby Failed. The device driver for
the 'communications port (COM1)' device is preventing the
machine from entering standby....

I have installed all of the available Microsoft Win2K
updates, including driver updates. Nothing seems to
help. I can find no reference to this problem in the MS
Knowledge Base.

An ideas anyone?

Right Click on my computer, select properties. You will be at system
properties. Select the hardware tab and then device manager. You are going
to have to click around here. For example, click on the + sign next to
mouse and expand it. Right click on your specific mouse and select
properties again. Where it says Power Management, deselect checkboxes that
say "allow this device to bring the system out of standby". Navigate around
in here for any Power Management tabs and begin the process of elimination.

Great idea. Unfortunately, all the power management check
boxes I can find here are unchecked. I did notice,
however, that my Microsoft USM Intellimouse appears in 2
places, once under Mice and once under Human interface
devices. This seems strange.

Delete one, worst that can happen is you boot up next time with no mouse.
This is fixable with the keyboard though. Just make sure you have a driver
file easily accessible on your hard drive. I have found standby to be flaky
unless it is a cherry computer brought home from the store with all the
manufacturer's TLC. So much as change your mouse or god forbid re-install
your OS and suddenly no worky.

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse and following posted
suggestions, upgraded to the latest drivers. No luck.
Looks like I may just have to disable the standby feature,
but I will keep looking for a fix for a while.
