Problems displaying Pictures - Any thoughts?

C

Chris C

Hi,
I'm using FP 2003.
Some pages, after they're published, will not display
pictures.

I insert the pictures, they appear OK in Design view, in
Preview view and in Preview in Browser.

However when I publish the page (and the picture), the
picture does not appear on the page.

Has anyone alse had this same problem? Any help
appreciated?
Thanks,
Chris

Did you import the images into your current open web / site before using them?

Show us your URL.
Did you see this message that I posted yesterday(probably more than you need
to know, but I'll include it anyway):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First, I really don't mean to embarrass anyone but we've seen a few examples
lately of web pages that show that the designers have little or no
understanding of how to prepare images for use on pages. One page I looked
at (from this newgroup) took forever to load and I found that even the
smallest photos were each over 100 kb each. They were lovely but 10kb would
probably have been enough. On another site I found photos that were 1600 x
1200 ... had not been cropped, color balance was terrible, people had
serious red-eye etc. Proper optimization is absolutely necessary for ALL
your images. So I must remind some of you that if you are going to add
images, especially photos, get yourself a good image editing program and
learn how to use it. You don't need the full version of Photoshop ...
Photoshop Elements 2 will be just fine, or Paint Shop Pro (version 9 is just
now shipping) or Ulead's PhotoImpact XL. Fireworks is not my first choice
for working with photos but it is for making lots of other images needed on
web pages ... banners, font gifs etc. I've used NetStudio for some banners
and nav buttons also.
Be sure that you do NOT use any of the image editing capabilities that are
there within FP!
I've written a few tutorials that you might want to read now. Start here:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/usingphotos.htm
Here's an article about Paint Shop Pro Album which might work well for a
beginner:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/PSPA/pspa.htm
Here's one comparing three different programs. It's a bit out of date but it
contains lots of basic information:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/ComparingPrograms/comparingprograms.htm
Photo Galleries withing FP:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/PhotoGalleryTutorial/galleries.htm
And because I don't really recommend this component, read this article:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/PhotoGalleryPrograms/index.htm
Finally some other suggested resources, including the Top Ten Traps for
FrontPage Designers' link (by Jim Buyens):
Good luck with acquiring these much needed skills,
Eleanor
Thanks,
I've been using pics for a long time on my site (via a
previous ISP) without problems. This has only just
started occurring.
I will post the URL of the problem page tonight when I
get home from work.
Yes, the images are contained in a folder named Images
and then inserted into the page from that folder.
I must say most images display fine. But for some odd
reason, some don't. Even after deleting the image and
then reinserting it and resaving the page, some still
don't display .... Frustrating!!!
But how did you get the image into the current web?
I Saved the pics to the Images folder (in the Web I'm
working on) from the Image Editor I'm using.
That is not the same as importing the images into the current open web and leads to the issues you
are having.
Delete the current image via FP, then use the File Menu | Import Command or select the image files
and then drag-n-drop them into the current open FP web.
I've found the following will also work.
With the web open in FP, You can also use File | Import, browse to the
images in the directory already, highlight them and tell FP to import
the files (even though they are already there). FP will ask if you want
to overwrite the files, answer Yes.
