Can't see pictures in design view

When I add a picture, design view only shows a small icon but preview
displays the picture. This problem is intermittent. sometimes it works and
sometimes not. I've attempted to edit a page I just created without problems
and published (IIS 5, FP Extensions) but this time no pictures in design
view. Other times, I can't even add pictures to new pages w/o seeing only
icons.

I've tried to repair Office and FP as well as remove and reinstall Office
and FP. No change in anomalous behavior.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 patched and firewalled with Office 2003
FrontPage 2003 InfoPath 2003 VS.NET 2003...

Don't use spaces or punctuation in file or folder names (other the _ or -)
- you have a folder named: 041216.BOS_Appreciation
rename it as 041216_BOS_Appreciation

| and yes, I droped the pictures on FP folder view before creating default.htm
| in the same web folder. When I selected Insert Pictrue from File, I choose
| picture files from the web folder. As I said. I can see them in preview but
| not in design view.

Thankyou for the sugestion. I'm not sure what bothers me more. That it
worked or that it only worked one time! <grrrrrrrr/>

So, renaming the folder allowed me to insert the picture and thumbnail it
<horay/>
http://www.clubfinz.com/utility_pages/achievements.htm

The second time I edited the page, to alter the copy, I was not able to see
the pictures in design view. am I to conclude that the relative path (../)
is breaking FP. If so then this is a huge bug. I never had this problem in
FP02 or InterDev or Dreamweaver or ....

PS: Both . and %20 are valid characters in a URL. HTTP, IIS, NTFS, and IE
can all handle them correctly. As I said, only design view is having
trouble. If FP can't handle them then it's broke so add this to the bug list!

%20 is "representing" a space in Html but FP has never handled path changes in scripts
A . in a folder name is not supported by FP
- it is supported as part of a URL

Just because browser can encode those characters, doesn't mean you should use them in FP

FP 2003 manages relative paths Ok
- don't know what your problem is/was, but there is no bug there

Clear your IE browser cache (FP uses IE for display) or do some cleanup / repair
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
