Problems discovering devices on the LAN

O

Oliver Moore

I am running Vista Home on a laptop (soon to be upgraded to Vista
Enterprise) and I have a small but growing LAN at home. It consists of this
laptop (Connected via Wireless); another HP laptop (also via Wireless); an
HP Inkjet printer; a Lexmark Laser Printer; a Billion router and a Netgear
switch.

When I view the devices on my network it does not show the Lexmark printer
nor the switch. I have recently obtained a Static IP address range so I can
install a server on the network tomorrow but I can't find these two devices
on the network (both of which are working).

Has anyone got any suggestions.

Thanks,

T

Tim

Why the need for static IP addresses? Doesn't your router support DHCP? I
wouldn't exptect to see the switch show up unless it's a managed switch
(can't tell from your description). Is the Lexmark directly connected to one
of the PCs and if so, is it shared?
