Problems deleting text in MS Word

I am having problems deleting text in MS Word. 1st I when using the delete
key to delete text in Word Documents, nothing would happen. I can delete
stuff with no problem in other programs. I ran a repair and it did not fix
the problem. I uninstalled and re-installed and I can now delete BUT I get
prompted on the STATUS BAR yes or no to delete text I want to delete. Can
anyone help shed some light on this. Thanks.

Tools > options > general - uncheck the two Word Perfect items
