Problems creating desktops for other User Accounts

I got some help recently because when I created a new User Account on a
school, stand-alone pc (Windows XP Home o/s) I had a lot of programs missing
from both the Start / All Programs menu and the basic desktop.

I did what was suggested and copied the applications into
the../All Users/Shared Documents/.. folders from my area but it still makes
no difference.

Could it be that the manufacturer has set something in the BIOS security
sharing that is stopping this working or is there anything else I could try?

Thanks,

Noel

Why "../All Users/Shared Documents/"?
Why not "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" or "C:\Documents
and Settings\All Users\Desktop"?

What errors do you get now?
Do you now see the application shortcuts on the other users start
menu/desktop?

It's very possible that the applications installed cannot run because the
users do not have permissions (NTFS File & Directory permissions) to access
the appropriate directories, but we would need more of a description of what
you are/are not seeing and have tried.

The idea of a "BIOS Lock" that stops you from running applications on a home
PC is pretty far-fetched. =)

Thanks for the reply.

I copied the ../All Users/Shared Documents/.. simply because the MVP person
who replied suggested it!

There are no error messages and no new shortcuts on the desktop of the user
accounts.

Should I copy the 'Start Menu' and 'Desktop' as you suggest?

Further to my most recent post I have copied my User Account folders in:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" &
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop"

into the new User Account folders.

Without any success.

There are no error messages just no icons on the desktop or programs in the
Start / All Programs menu.

Am getting desperate!

So you are saying that with an Administrative user in Windows XP (Home or
Professional) you have gone into the C:\Documents and Settings directory and
then put something in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop folder
and then logged out.. Logged in as another user and that item (text file,
picture, program shortcut, whatever you want) is not on that desktop as well
as any other user you log in as?

Yes!

I tried it on my home pc and it works perfectly but on the school machine it
makes no difference - the icons don't appear on the desktop or on the
program menu.
