Problems after XP SP2 update

(1) I can not copy many files at one time (only 5 or so).
Prior to the SP2 update, I could copy all of the files I
wanted with no problems at all.

(2) After 4 days of using XP Pro, my computer locked up
twice. So badly that I could not even get to the task
manager (Ctl / Alt / Del) to see what it was doing. Mouse
was locked - everything was locked.

(a) The first lock up happened using MS-WORD 97. (Yes, I
have MS-Office 2003 but took it off because it was not
behaving well with my documents created with 97. MS-Office
97 is rock solid).

(b) The second lock up happened using Netscape 7.1. I was
about to make a purchase but my system locked again.

I went back to my backup disk (prior to SP2 update) and my
XP Pro system seems good so far.
(I tested the copy again of the same files (155 files, 55MB
from my digital camera) and I am able to copy all files at
one time again.)

I shut off my Windows "Update Notification".

Try running a full check disk (may take a couple of hours or so)

Right-click c: in "My Computer" > Properties > Tools > "Check Now.." > Check
both boxes and agree to the check at restart

Also do a full virus scan
