Problems after upgrade from home basic to home premium

I upgraded the other day from home basic to home premium using the windows
any time upgrade disk that came with my machine (Dell Inspiron 9000)
Since then I have no sound and if i hover of the sound icon in the task bar
I get the message "No audio output device is installed" Sure enough if I look
in device manager there is no mention of anything to do with sound.

Also I get a message from Mcafee security suite saying that my computer is
not protected, if I open it pretty much all the features are disabled and if
I try to re-enable them or click "Fix now" the Mcafee window flashes a few
times but then hangs or crashes or simply fails to "Fix" the problems.

Any ideas?

Sounds to me like Windows Premium dropped a driver or failed to recognize
your sound card. I wanted to address your second problem, however. I use
McAffee security suite also and have had problems using their "fix" button
locing up my system. I just wanted to mention that the message you get about
your computer not being protected may still haunt you even if you get its
firewall, virus checker, spyware checker, etc. enabled. McAffee offers other
Premium options like E-mail scanning, or the like, that they want you to buy.
Therefore, even if you get the features you want (I suggest that you use
Windows firewall and not theirs as theirs isn't as compatible with other
programs) enabled you will still get that message inferring that you need to
buy their premium package to be fully protected. It does go away at some
point because I no longer see it and I never bought the premium package.

I think I may try uninstalling Mcafee and re-installing. See what happens!

As for the sound card it also doesnt even recognise it if I scan for new
harware. Strange!

I wouldn't reinstall it if I were you since it is in the frame
for many email problems on Vista systems.

Avast (or AVG) (free) is a much safer products...

Check microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail for a litany
of McAfee and , even moreso, Norton related problems.
