Problems adding second DC to AD Domain

Hello, I have an existing DC that was upgraded from NT to
2K and setup with AD. The server has DNS, WINS, IIS and
Terminal Services. The server trusts and is trusted by
three domains that are in our corporate office in NJ.
There they have Exchange and WINS servers as well as DHCP
for the clients. The DC in the domain here has a static
IP. The server here is old and the tape drive is faulty.
I wish to replace it eventually but understand that if I
reload 2K on a new server identically and place it in its
place I will receive SID errors on the new server. So I
was told to add it as an additional DC on the domain using
dcpromo. I did so but received SAM, KCC and other error
messages. The new server picked up the users in AD but
got errors with IWAM_user and IUSR for some reason. On
top of that, the servers will not replicate. I need to
put the new server in place and I tried what the others
have said to do, but it still has not worked. I need help
that works. Thanks!!

A few key concepts and things to check.

Active Directory problems usually have to do with DNS.
Make sure this domain controller is pointing to your DNS
server. It most likely is correct as it wouldn't have let
you add it as another domain controller if it couldn't
find DNS.

I believe the support tools on the Win2k CD contain to
programs. The first is netdiag and the second id dcdiag.

Run these from a command prompt and it will show you what
if anything is wrong with your setup.

If you get any test that failed look up the error on
google. Fix 1 probablem at a time. Before you know it it
will run smooth.

As far as (The new server picked up the users in AD but
got errors with IWAM_user and IUSR for some reason.)
I wouldn't worry. THose are users for IIS and they are
basically saying they do not have rights to whatever they
are trying to get at. IIS installs automatically with
win2k so you may not have even known that that has
installed. You can always disable IIS and the errors will
go away or ad those users into whatever share they are
barking about.

Hope this helps.

Make sure that your TCP/IP settings for DNS point to your
existing DNS server. That is the first step.

After your server is a domain controller run DCdiag and
netdiag.
