Problems accessing second harddrive

Hey, I had to wipe my first drive clean after a virus in my system
files would not allow any executables to run. After a small issue with
my ethernet, my computer is not recognizing my second harddrive. The
jumpers have not been touched and my boyfriend's computer is throwing a
fit after having my second harddrive in it, wouldn't boot while it was
in.

I was willing (sort of) to reformat my second hard drive, and although
it's seen in device manager I cannot access it to wipe it in any way.

Help please!

Is the drive recognized correctly in the Bios?
Have you scanned the drive for viruses?

Your boyfriend's hard drive may be set to single master or cable select.

He said he has a serial ata as his primary and an IDE as a slave so
techincally he doesn't have an IDE master, so he said his system is
really touchy.

Yes it is recognized in the BIOS and no, I can't access it in any way
to virus scan it.
