Problem with XP & Outlook Express

When using OE with Windows XP, sent emails do not delete from the Outbox and
do not show up in Sent Items. However, the emails are sending. In fact,
that's a major problem, because each time OE is opened, the message(s) in
the Outbox resend. I have deleted the Outbox folder from the OE directory
and recreated, but the problem persists.

When I set up Outlook with the same settings as in OE, all is fine. I have
no problem using Outlook, but I really would like OE to be fixed.

Please advise.

1. Move any messages you want to keep out of Outbox and Sent Items folder to
another user-created OE folder.

2. Close OE.

3. Find and delete Outbox.dbx and Sent Items.dbx in your identity's store
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain). In WindowsXP, the OE
user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these
files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under
Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

4. When you reopen OE, all should be well.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
