Problem with XP Appearance

I'm running XP Home SP2 and have changed the appearance to a classic Windows style using the desktop properties.

Each time I boot up, the computer has reverted to the XP style.

I'm using a Dell Dimension 8400 with 1 GB RAM.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Open the Appearance window again, after selecting the Classic Style, did you
click OK? That's WRONG! Select it again, then click APPLY first and then
OK, to set and
save settings. Try it. :~)

Thanks for your response; however, I have been using the "apply" button. Any other ideas?
