Problem with Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A

We have an instructor using this keyboard and mouse and can only get a signal
for about 3 ft from a movable podium. The wireless infrared device sits on a
desk which is only about 3 feet away from the mouse, keyboard and podium and
can't get a signal. If I move the keyboard and mouse on the desk it works
fine. I put new batteries.

Is there a limit on the distance that the keyboard and mouse should be away
from the wireless device?

Infared does not work very far...3 feet seems short, but not usually
more than 6 feet from my experience. You may want to consider buying
one that is RF(Radio frequency) as they can go upto 10 meters or more.
