Problem with USB ADSL adaptor - XP SP2

Microsoft

Hi,

Lately my broadband connection doesn't stay on more than a few minutes, then
one of the green lights on the adaptor turns red, the connection cuts out &
I can't reconnect until I've either physically unplugged & replaced the
adaptor or else I have to disable & re-enable it on device manager.

I've been using the same ISP & equipment for a year & it used to stay
connected for weeks at at time. Tech suppor say it's a USB problem because
the right hand light goes red on the adaptor. I've had problems with USB
suddenly not recognizing devices and even blue screens caused by 'USB
Device' so it rings true.

Tech support advised to install a 'USB 2 patch', I've tried Google but it's
not very clear, apparently XP SP2 already has it, any ideas much
appreciated.

Thanks

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your USB ports, one at a
time, click the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off
this device to save power".
