Problem with UPS

I have Mustek PowerMust 400 USB UPS installed and I have problems with
WinPower software. Drivers from the original CD does not detect my UPS.
(I have green plug icon in system tray, but the program doesn't work;
Monitor displays "no connection").
I downloaded latest version of Winpower software. After first restart
all worked correctly. When I disconnect the power plug, I saw the
countdown dialog. Monitor showed information about voltage and load of
battery. After second restart drivers broke down :( I tried to reinstall
and install various versions of UPS drivers, but without success. I also
cannot find UPS in device manager. Can you help me?

My computer's configuration:
Windows XP SP2, JRE 1.4, ADSL internet connection, no LAN or WAN
installed, ASRock P4S55FX2 motherboard with 6 USB ports (I tried to
connect UPS to all of them), Celeron 2000 MHz, 512 MB DDR.

When I disconnect the power plug,

It is not safe to test a UPS by disconnecting the power at the
receptical. The reason is that you also lose your ground, which means
the entire system can float above ground. If it is connected to other
equipment like a router, etc, then those components can experience a
common mode voltage.

You may have other connected equipment (eg. printer) that will
preserve ground, but it is still not a good idea to create ground
loops by disabling ground on one side like at the UPS.

The safe way to test a UPS is to open the circuit breaker. That way
the ground connection is preserved.

BTW, I got this recommendation from technical support at Tripp Lite. I
am not making it up.

OK. But what I can do with this drivers?

Call tech support, either at the factory or at the vendor where you
bought the unit.

How does the UPS communicate with the computer? Most use USB 2.0.

I was told by Tripp Lite not to activate the Windows 2K power manager
when using their manager that came on CD. There are conflicts. So make
sure if you are using the factory software that you have the Windows
version disabled.

Connected to a USB port? The product description at
http://www.mustek.com/html/prod_comp/ups400/index.html describes only a
DB-9 serial interface. The picture of the backside of the unit shows the
power cord, two 3-prong outlets, two phone jacks (in/out), and the DB-9
serial interface (which may not match normal serial pinouts but instead
require a custom cable). No USB ports are shown. It also only lists
Windows 9x support. I did not see any Mustek drivers listed at
http://www.mustek.com/Download/mustekdrivers.html. You sure you aren't
trying to use the Windows-embedded UPS drivers (which, I believe, are
for APC products)? A search on "winpower" on Mustek's site turns up no
matches.

Same for APC, Disable the windows power saving stuff. Use APC software only.
(if you have APC obviously)
