Problem with TWAIN source with Epson 1260

Wild Wind

Hi,

OS - Windows 2000 SP4.

Whenever I try to acquire this scanner to scan a document using
Microsoft Photo Editor, I get a brief sound like the scanner
is warming up, then a message saying:

"Unable to open selected TWAIN source.

If your scanner is a TWAIN compliant scanner, please
reinstall the software for that scanner."

I have tried reinstalling the original software that came with the
scanner, but this makes no difference.

I have tried plugging and unplugging the scanner from the computer
and the mains, but this too makes no difference.

I looked to see whether the scanner is listed in "Scanners and
Cameras" - it is. Under 'Properties', I find that it is
attached to the '\\.\Usbscan0' port, but the button to
test the scanner is disabled.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Maybe you have a twain error in Microsoft Photo Editor.
If so, re-install Microsoft Photo Editor.

Can you use the Epson 1260 at all? What about the Epson standalone software,
does it work?

What interface (USB, SCSI)?

If SCSI, did you install the "ASPI Layer" software from Adaptek?

Has the scanner ever worked? What Operating System was successful?

OK, I figured out what the problem is.

The Still Image Service on Windows 2000 wasn't started.
I restarted it, and everything works OK now.

Thanks to CSM1 and RSD99 for your help.
