Problem with System Volume Information File

M

Marc C.Dürrer

In order to gain more space on an external Hard Disk (F:) I deleted the
System Volume Information File on that drive. I plug in this external HD
(with USB connection) now and then to back up some data (no operating
system). Having done that I realized that as a consequence the contents of
the system Volume Information File on my C: Drive was also deleted (Folder
is empty). Before it used to store some MB of stuff including a number of
System Restore Files. The same happened to the second partition of my Hard
Disk (H:)which I use for Data Storage. Also, the "Recent" file has
disappeared on my C: Drive.

In the meantime I have manually created a new restore point so that I have
now two restore points (one automatically created and called System Check
Point). However, my System Volume Information Files on C (and on D) are
still empty and I wonder where the system restore files of the newly
created restore points have gone to. While I don't care about the missing
files on D:, I might need one day this file on my C Drive.

System Restore is not turned off and the disk space for System Restore is
at Max. (2400MB).

Where are my new system restore files and how do I get the "Recent" File
back?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hiii, the "System Volume Information" folder is used by system restore to
regularly backup operating system vital files and create a restore point to
it.

Since u deleted it, system restore is going to start a new set for restore
points and backups. nothin to be worried of but dont delete this in future
as if ur system crashes u wudnt be able to restore it.

Just to be on safe site check if ur system restore is enabled or not :
resulting this action. my computer > properties(rightclick) > System
Restore.

System Restore can be accessed by: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Hope this helps..,

Thanks. I still wonder why my System Volume Information File is still empty
after several reboots.
Furthermore my "Recent" File has disappeared. How do I get this one back?

System Restore can be implemented on a "drive by drive" basis. You don't
necessarily need it activated on all drives. Many people only track their
Windows drive, usually drive C:
