Problem with Stop error

First off when a blue screen stop error occurs I am unable to restart
without pulling power plug. Is this normal and/or how do I turn it off in a
safer manner.

Part two: I am getting a stop error during Ghost backup and it says its do
to mfehidk.sys.
Research on this says that this file is often compromised but I am unable to
find out how to verify this or repair it. Suggestions please.
TIA

A further question can anyone tell me if this is a XP file or just a McAfee
file. If not needed I maybe can remove it when running ghost. IE do I need
it to run DVD burners?
It shows in system32/drivers and Mcafee\virusscan as having been changed
about a month ago.

Regularly run scans, ran multiple programs looking for this. Find nothing.
