Problem with Scanner

When i open my scanner from My Comp and enter the wizard(for Scanning), and
click on preview, i get the error that the scanner may be in use by other
device(even when there is no other device using it).The scanner even doesn't
work in MS Office Doc Scanning program or any other program like Photoshop
7(both report no scanner installed but i get it in device manager and the
scanner/camera wizard). I tried updating the drivers for both the scanner and
USB root hub controller. Uninstalled, reinstalled, etc, everything. I have a
dual boot, XP Pro and XP MCE 2005. The Scanner works perfect in MCE but in XP
Pro it won't. It did use to work previously but suddenly it failed. I've even
tried SYS Restore and am now out of options! Any suggestions are welcome.
Scanner make : Acer S2W3300U (get's installed in XP as Flatbed Scanner_23)

Is the WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Service started...? (Control Panel,
Admin Tools, Services)

Yes WIA is started. Another thing, I can't get the preview(only), if i skip
that and go to scanning directly, the scanning is done.
