Problem with Recovery CD??

I

i

Hello,

I had a look at the previous messages and it seems none comes exactly
to what I am experiencing.

Problem: I cannot reformat disk and install WinXP using the recovery
CD.
After the message "Press any key to boot from CD..." there is a
fleeting
line - which I cannot read - and the screen goes and stays blank.

Notes:
1) The recovery disk came with the PC which I bought just over a year
ago.
2) I have used this CD to reformat and reinstall XP quite a few times.
3) I have an off-the-self P4 PC with no hardware changes.
4) I have currently a multi boot system - WinXP/Ubuntu/Suse (I want to
get rid of the last two).
5) The CD-ROM driver seems to work ok. I manage copy the contents of
various CDs onto the HD with no problem. Same with recovery CD -
managed to copy it to HD as a test.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Do you mean "How to Remove the Linux LILO Boot Manager"?

I had before dual boot system before with no problem.
But the triple boot might be something new.

Anyway, I tried inserting the images for Ubuntu or Suse and
it tries to install them.

From what I read the nuclear option is:

fdisk /mbr

Perhaps the linux folk might have an idea.

not sure,

i had comtemplated installing ubantu on the
hd as well and instead of the cd.

but before doing so, i made sure to double
check microsoft.com and what i read led
me to reconsider this ambition.

and since linux would only be a toy,
i didn't want to sacrifice windows
which is my workhorse.

the other solution i thought about was to buy
another hd and exclusively for linux.

the nuclear option sounds like it would work,
but maybe (maybe....) creating an emergency boot
disk fromanother pc with the ntdlr, ntdetect.com, fixboot
and fixmbr on it might be a worthy try on the unfunctional
pc, since you got nothing to loose.

maybe copying the system file from the cd to the hd,
then running the "fix" programs, might get you somewhere
closer into your filesystem and o.s.

i'm curious with your outcome and be looking
forward to your results....

g.l.....
