I have recently set up a number of newsgroups to be view via
Outlook2003.

All was working fine until I "updated" from the Office site and install
Office2003 SP2.

After that when I clicked on "news" in Outlook2003 I simple got an
explorer
window displaying a list of files.

I now do not even have the "news" button on outlook.

Outlook express still has the groups set-up and will synchronise.

Outlook Express IS the newsreader that Outlook uses.

If you want OE to open in news mode change the OE shortcut to read "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews. The added item is » (space)/outnews «.

I am not using a "shortcut" to call Outlook express. I was using the
'news' button on the outlook toolbar.

This button has now disappeared and I can not find it in the 'customise'
areas to put it back.

That "button" is a shortcut to Outlook Express. To get the News command
back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |Internet Options and
change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.
