Problem with out going TCP/IP connections - XP Professional

Hello,
I have a home LAN with two PC's connected, one a desktop running Windows XP
Professional and the other a ThinkPad running Windows 2000. I can share
files and network attach resources from either (I have NETBIOS over TCPIP
enabled). I can also PING from either machine. My problem is that I can not
get INTO the XP machine on any TCP/IP port. I set up an HTTP server on the
XP machine and can browse to it locally (I see my web page), but I can't get
to it from my Win 2000 machine. Same for telnet...(I did start the telnet
service on the XP machine) and DB2. I can get from the XP machine to the Win
2000 but not vice versa. If I look at the TCP ports using netstat -a -o, I
can see that the proper applications are listening on the known ports. On
XP: I have no firewall installed, I have the network card firewall disabled.
I have simple filesharing disabled, Network access: Sharing and security
model for local accounts is set to classic in the Local Security Settings.
I have no idea what else I might have set up incorrectly. Does anyone have
an idea what I might be missing, or at least a way I can approach
troubleshooting this?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Mike Beers.

Mike,

Check the subnet mask carefully on each PC. They should
be the same, typically something like 255.255.255.0.
