Problem with opening folders

G

Guest

Whenever I try to open a folder by double left clicking it, my computer goes
into search mode instead of just opening the folder. If I right mouse click
on the folder, open is about the sixth function down the list and search is
on the top. I have tried going into folder options/file types & then
selecting file folder/advanced but in the actions box it only has the
following items: Enqueue in Winamp, Play in Winamp, unziplify, Add to
Winamp's bookmark list and find (i.e there is no open option like with other
files or folders). The double-click function used to work fine, but then just
stopped working for no reason! I am hoping someone can help me?

You might also try reprogramming your mouse. That's in the
Control Panel under the mouse icon.

Make sure that your mouse is programmed for:

Right handed user. (the left button is the primary button)

That it is programmed for double-click rather than
single-click. The single click option might seem like a
"labor-saver", but I've found it to be more problematic than
helpful.

Good luck.

No reprogramming necessary.

This problem occurs when you alter the "Drive" / "File Folders" entries via
File Types dialog, to add a "Command Prompt here" or "Print Directory"
feature for folders. (example)

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321186

Resolution:

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
(Tip from David Candy)

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

-or-

Fix "Search" Opens Instead of Explorer:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_folder_open.htm

-or-

To fix this manually via registry:

If this problem is seen for Drives:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

If this problem is seen for folders:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
Set (default) to "none" (without ")
