problem with Norton Internet Security

I've just installed Norton Internet Security software on my PC (2.6 GHz) with Win XP Home Edition and although it is clearly installed, it doesn't run. I thought maybe I had some spy/adware or something that might be causing some interference and so I downloaded and installed Spybot. It too doesn't work, although it works on my other computer! I then tried installing Ad-aware and it too doesn't work when I try to run it. Other software (ie. Wordperfect, or games, etc...) work fine. It seems that just my anti-virus, anti-spyware software is not working for some reason. Does this sound like some virus which is going undetected? I might add that I can run all of the Symantec removal tools successfully without any problem. It's just the apps that won't run. When I try to run them, the hour glass flashes for a second or two as though the app is going to load, but nothing happens and I remain at the desktop. Any suggestions would be really appreciated
Thanks in advance

This is typical of already being infected with some type of virus
Restart your system in safe mode and the programs should be able to launch (The virus or scumware won't be active
scan with both of them and see what they find
Good luc

Whilst you may believe that the installation completed successfully, there must be some fault on the system

You can try to uninstall Norton's and then go to http://www.sarc.com and do an oline scan or else run a scan before installing

The Norton's CD will 'autorun' and a full system scan prior to installation is an option you should use.

Hi Bar
Thanks for the suggestions, but I already completed them. Norton's pre-installation scan turned up nothing. Could this possibly be a hardware problem? I've heard of earlier versions of Norton Internet Security (pre 2002) not functioning with XP but this is a smacking brand new NIS 2004 version. Any other ideas

Hi Map
I did install and attempt to run the software in safemode. Any ideas? Should I simply re-format and partition and start over (again)
Thanks

you might want to download the stinger.exe program from MacAfee and run it
in safe mode. You probably have a virus you might need to try renaming the
programs from .exe to .com this fools many viruses!
