problem with my outlook inbox

outlook 2003, windows xp sp2

I am using an IMAP server and I can see the inbox on my server and all the
other folders but outlook is not transfering the inbox message to my outlook
inbox and using the filters which are better then the ones on the server. i
think outlook is not moving the emails off the server just leaving them on
the server. anyone have an idea?
 
That's how IMAP works, you have to Delete and then Purge the messages (from
the Outlook Edit Menu).
