Problem with MSN e-mail interface

R

Regina

(Sorry if this is wrong forum; I can't find any title
which seems to fit.)

I'm really getting tired of this. Every twenty e-mails
or so, when I open an e-mail within my MSN e-mail, the
original e-mail is replaced by this an e-mail from
Hotmail (copied below). This does not happen to most e-
mails, doesn't happen every time I log on, nor does it
appear to matter how many e-mails I've got in my in box:
sometime it happens after reading 15, sometimes after
reading only one.

Meanwhile, the original text of the e-mail, along with
it's real subject line, is still available if I open a
non-secure link to Hotmail and read it there, instead of
within MSN e-mail.

Dear ********

To help protect our users from automatically generated
junk e-mail (or spam), MSN Hotmail periodically asks for
identity verification.

Please go to http://www.hotmail.msn.com and follow the
instructions. It takes only a few minutes and you can
then return to using your Hotmail account.

Thank you for helping us to help reduce your junk e-mail.
Sincerely,
MSN Hotmail Staff

Unfortunately, when I click on the link, I always get
this screen:

The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had
its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make
sure that it is spelled correctly.

Open the g.msn.com home page, and then look for links to
the information you want.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Click Search to look for information on the Internet.

Has this happened to you? Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks, I just did. We'll see what happens.

Meanwhile, I really, really don't like the "new" version
of Microsoft help fora. The old version (like the
display I'm getting here) was really user-friendly.

The upgrade won't let me change the size of the text box,
doesn't display the message sender's name or the date
unless one opens the message, and is, in general, a
completely unnecessary change in format which overlooked
the oldest addage in the book: if it ain't broke, don't
fix it!

You don't know what you are missing.
Try a newsgroup with a newsreader.

When I bookmark this format, which I like, the address is:

http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp

When I bookmark other inquiries, is get ---

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?
NewsGroup=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&SLCID=US&ICP=
GSS3&sd=GN&id=fh;en-us;newsgroups ---

and wind up on a screen where a) I can't move any
windows, b) I can't find anything I need, and c) I can't
figure out "where" I am.

No thank you.

You must have misinterpreted. Most of us use Outlook Express
for a newsreader. It is not something that can be
bookmarked. It's in OE and would be below the Local Folders,
and it's a lot easier to keep track of posts.

What Robear is telling you is that you are using the web interface to
Usenet groups. The web interface is the clunkiest, worst way to access
newsgroups. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to
use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you
can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are some links

PS to PA Bear:

I just looked back in on the below, and noticed three
things:
1. There's very little action on that site;
2. According to MS, they're working on it, so search
function isn't "on."
3. Nobody has posted a reply.

New Question:

I just scanned the entire index of Microsoft.com home,
and there isn't a single line entry containing the
word "e-mail" or "hotmail" -- there are a few entries
referencing Outlook Express, but, since I have no problem
with OE, that would do no good.

If my memory isn't completely off-base, there used to be
a subset of this index which helped people specifically
with e-mail problems.

A1. That may be but it's the only MSN-specific MS newsgroup.

A2. The archive of that newsgroup is searchable, Regina:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.msn.discussion

A3. There have been replies to every post of yours: http://snipurl.com/dkmx

A-New Question. Articles about Hotmail at microsoft.com =>
http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?st=b&na=88&View=en-us&qu=hotmail

E-mail:
http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?view=en-us&st=b&na=82&qu=e-mail

Hotmail + E-mail:
http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?view=en-us&st=b&na=82&qu=e-mail+++hotmail
===============
Just don't click on that "broken" link. Go instead to www.hotmail.com and
sign-in there.

Thanks. I don't use OE to interact with MSN; instead, I
use it for my multiple Comcast.net e-mail accounts.

However, I have noticed the "newsreader" function, and
I'll try to plug into these usergroups that way next time
I have time to do some exploring / learning.

I must note that I've not had any trouble in the past
with this interface until it was "upgraded."
