Problem with left click in desktop's empty space.

I have this problem:

1) Right click in taskbar ------> Taskbar context menu is shown
2) Right click in desktop (empty space) --------> Desktop context menu
is shown
3) Left click in desktop (empty space) ---------> Desktop context menu
keeps showing up (incorrect behavior)

The problem persists until you right click the desktop, then context
menu shows up again, but then left clicking doesn't show it anymore.

If somebody hit this one, please help me. This is really a pain. And it
happens all the time, is 100% reproducible.

I'll ask the obvious. Have you checked your mouse button settings?
Control Panel / mouse.

Yes, I have. The mouse settings are normal, and it seems like if for
some reason the left click acts temporarily as a right click when you
go through the sequence described previously.

No clue then. This has been asked before, maybe something posted
could help you out.

I fix it! It's weird but the problem was related to the Advanced Text
Input Services component. I found it by trial and error using the
msconfig tool, first disabling all startup items, then enabling them
progressively until the problem occurred. The item causing the
misbehavior was ctfmon.exe. I did a google search and found a KB that
shows how to disable it:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282599

The only problem is that I will not be able to use the language bar. I
believe that maybe my system has some hardware incompatibility issues
because in the other home PC I installed XP in the same way, enabling
two input languages (Spanish and English), enabled the language bar,
and no problem happened. Weird...

Good for you!
