I am having trouble getting any Java to work. The site I'm having the most
trouble with is www.earthcam.com with all of the cams. None of them will
work without Java and that's where I think the problem is. I've had trouble
elsewhere too. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

If the problem IS that JAVA is missing or damaged, try
http://java.sun.com/getjava

Do you have Java on your machine?

With XP, you don't unless
a) you upgraded from earlier Windows;
b) you downloaded Java from Sun
c) you downloaded MS java from any of the many reputable but non-MS sites.

www.earthcam.com works fine for me. I have both flavors of Java on my
computer,
but I think the MS flavor was active when I checked.

I believe so. I believe I have both MS Java and Sun Java. If that makes
any sense.

This is a new computer with XP installed from the factory.
b) you downloaded Java from Sun

I believe I did, see above.

I had it installed when I got the computer.

Any other ideas? Thanks again.

The reason that MS is no longer supplying its own Java (aka MS Virtual Machine)
is because MS added "extensions" to Sun's Java, and Sun sued. If a web page
auther uses these non-Sun Java features, then Sun Java won't recognize them. If
earthcam fits in this category, ensure that you're using the MS VM to view those
pages. Go to the Control Panel and select the Java applet. You can specify
there what browser uses which Java.

How can I check to see that earthcam is even using Java? It might not even
be that. But I pull up, say for instance the NYC cam, and it's just a gray
area, no picture. Would that be Java? I have both Sun Java and the Java
that was installed in my computer when I first purchased it, which I assume
is MS Java. Is there anyway to get rid of Sun's Java so that the MS Java
can run on it's own? Thanks again.

Yes, you need to install MS Virtual Machine. That should
do it

Where can I install this MS Virtual Machine and where can I check to see if
I already have it so that I don't have to waste my time downloading it
again? Thanks again.
