Problem with Intervideo WinDVR

Just wondering if anyone out there can help me.
I bought this PC about 2.5 years ago. It came with an Nvidia graphics card
and a TV tuner operated via WinDVR. It all worked well for a while but i
haven't been able to record any TV program on the hard disc for ages as this
causes the whole system to freeze and i'm left with no option but to switch
the PC off manually (not even Ctl+Alt+Delete would work). The company i
bought the PC from, Systemax, doesn't seem to exist in the UK anymore and
there's no way i'm sending the box to the US. So i can't get any help from
the manufacturer. I don't seem to qualify for the 2 free questions via the
Microsoft Support route either. Oh, and neither Nvidia nor Intervideo offered
any help other than purchasing a new product.

I went to a local computer shop last week and someone there recommended that
i should re-install Windows (XP) as it is likely that over the years some
internal files might have got corrupted.

Is it safe to do so? i also believe that some certificate of authenticity
will be required if i was to re-install Windows. The manual that refers to
this certificate also indicates that the label containing the details of the
certificate has been removed by the manufacturer and attached to the PC but i
can only see a tiny label at the back of the box and i'm not even sure if
this is the certificate of authenticity. So i'm not sure about re-installing
XP after all.

I'm left with not many options. I will consider taking the machine to that
shop unless someone could come to my rescue and suggest a solution to solve
this problem.

Many thanks in anticipation

Yes it is a small label or sticker.... about 1cm x 3cm in size and the CD
Key is printed on that.

I would suggest the first thing to look for would be the drivers for the TV
Tuner card. Reinstalling them would be the initial way to go.
