I have been experiencing a similar problem. I have a Dell laptop with XP
Home Edition, IE6 SP2, I have all of the new Microsoft Updates. My problem
is that I can only search the internet using Dell's search engine, in which I
can choose whether it uses Google or Yahoo but I cannot go directly to Google
or Yahoo, the sites apparently "do not exist". Some how they have been
blocked from my computer. Does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix my
problem??? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Not an expert, but have you tried searching if you have a file called HOSTS
and opening it in notepad to see if google and yahoo are listed and deleting
those entries.

Hi,
These sites are probably being blocked by a HOSTS file. Some malware
programs (hijackers, parasites, etc.) add entries to the HOSTS file.

To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.
More on the HOSTS file at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/

In Win 9x, the file will be at [C:\Windows]
In Win 2K, at [C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc]

Next, check this machine for malware.
See:

And, because kids (and adults) click on things, consider installing

or
IE Spyad https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm
and
the HOSTS file from http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Hope this helps,
Don

What system is running on the "Host" computer (Yours) and how is it
connected to the internet (eg cable modem, some kind of router, whatever)
and do other sites work properly.

Sorry but I'm not very clear about exactly what it is that comes back with
"Not found" and there could be a number of reasons not related to IE itself
so you will have to be patient wiht the folks here while the problem is
tracked down.

I found and corrected the problem. MSN, Yahoo, and google were in a hosts
program for some reason. I was able to take them out of this program and
know these websites work correctly. Thank you all. -Gabe.
