Problem with installing Windows XP SP2

I have tried for months to install the SP2 for my Windows XP. I even ordered
the CD to try to install it that way. No matter what I try, including
printing out all the help steps and doing them, it seems to be about to the
half way point when I get a message that says 'Access is Denied' and it stops
installing. Any suggestions?

Are you signed in with admin rights? If so then what happens if you make a
new account, give it admin rights, and then sign in and try to do your
upgrade from that account? Sounds like a long trip but it's worth it.

You might want to take a peek here as well.

Hi,

Please see the "Access denied" section here:

Thank you for responding. Without sounding totally ignorant, I have tried
logging in as administrator and then loading the cd but as soon as it gets to
the point of loading registry keys, it shuts down and gives me the 'Access
Denied' message and terminates. Any suggestions?

See Torgeir's kind message. Those instructions should do the trick.
