Problems with SP2 installation

I'm trying to update WinXP with SP2. I downloaded but keep getting an error
message "access denied" about halfway through the installation. So I ordered
the CD, and the same thing is still happening. Why can I not install this?
(And yes, my version of Windows has been validated) Any help would be
appreciated.

I see some possible solutions by doing a Google search:

If those various articles fail to fix the problem, I'd be interested to know
if that's the entire error message, or whether there's more... and I'd also
think about running filemon and regmon and maybe process explorer, all free
from www.sysinternals.com, while installing SP2 to try to determine what you
are being denied to.
