Problem with installing the XP updates (Please need help)

I seem to have a very strange problem (at least is strange to me). My laptop
has OS XP loaded on it. Now I am trying to update all the critical patches
for XP from MS site. I have no problem dowloading this files from the site
but when the installation start it seems that it hangs and nothign happens.
I do not see any bar appearing on the installation process bar and it can
sit for hours and no installation happens.

Please Please help since I need to finsih a project as soon as possible and
I am stuck with this problem on my laptop.

Try and download a few updates at a time ... This worked for me on the
hanging problem .... Total
