David

I have installed this patch multiple times via automatic
update and web update and it is shows each time as
successfull in the installation history on the web page.
What is not getting set in the registry to tell windows
update the patch is applied?

I am having the same problem with this update. I have been
installing it everyday since January 14. WHAT IS GOING ON?

I don;t have a solution but I am sort of "glad" to see I
am not the only one with this problem... every day since
Jan 14.

Installed several times with automatic update so I went
the Windows Update site and had my PC scanned. It found it
needed to be installed (again) and decided to give it one
more try hoping that using the site as a source would make
a difference..nop! Same result.

Went to /technet to manually download and install...nop!
Same result again. Although there are no error message
during nor after the installation, it does not seem to
make the necessary changes to the Registry flagging that
is was successfully installed!?

FYI,

I recently installed W2K-SP4 before this problem started
showing... don't know if it is related but I just thought
of providing this info.

I believe this is the first update I get since SP4 was
installed...

I have determined I have MDAC 2.6 SP1 installed which is
not on the supported list for the Security Patch.

Here is what MS04-003 (KB832483) is looking for.

Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.5 Service Pack 2
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.5 Service Pack 3
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.6 Service Pack 2
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.7 RTM
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.7 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.8 RTM

I was successfull installing the patch on another Win2000
system where the MDAC version was 2.7 SP1. It also forced
a reboot after the install finished.

The patch is for MDAC 2.52, 2.53, 2.62, 2.70, 2.71 or 2.80 so if you want to
upgrade to one of those versions that should fix the problem for you.
Otherwise you will have to ignore the update until the fix is published.

I solved this problem.

Download from Microsoft MDAC 2.8 and the hotfix MS04-003
(KB832483). Install MDAC 2.8 and reboot. Then install
the hotfix and reboot. Windows Update show no required
updates.
