Problem with IE6 and OE6

I have posted previously on this problem, but received only one
suggestion that was not successful.
Using IE some links work when clicked, and others just lock up
the computer. This happens across all sites, and always on the
same links. The suggestion was made that I had spyware/adware in
the system and to run a spyware search and destroy program. This
I did, and found several such files which were promptly dealt
with. Unfortunately, this has made no difference, not even an
improvement.
Is there anywhere else I should be checking, or am I looking at a
re-install of Windows. Is there any software available that will
check my system and see whats wrong?
