i ve just brought a 9700 pro card but when i instaled it and installed the
cat drivers (the most recent ones of the web site) i re-booted my computer
it all worked ok but all the icons on the desk top are slightly corrupt plus
when i play Flight sim 2k4 all the writinging in that is corrupt, the
writing on this news group is corrupt as well. (just read it)

I tryed to run unreal tourney 2003 and i coild nt make any of the graphics
out they were all messed up.

My first thought could be the power supply its a bit old now (bout 3-4years
old) i going to change that. i just upgraded from a gf 3 card and don t
really want to go back.

I hope my card is nt corrpt

any suggestions....
TIA

Hi

I'm not sure but I think a change to a better PSU might help (it wont do any
harm anyway) look at Antec and some of the other 'quality' manufactures.

In addition some more info such as motherboard, CPU model/maufacturer might
help more knowlegable folks in this NG to assist you with the problem.

Also check the fan on the 9700 is running (I've made this mistake myself
with a CPU - ouch!) and that the case has adequate airflow (fans front 'n'
back) so you can eliminate overheating as a cause.

Also try using an earlier driver revision e.g. Cat 3.6 (if you're using
3.7).

But absolutely give the card (an a new PSU) a chance before you return it.

oh dam sorry forgot my system..

AMD xp2800
MSI KT3 Ultra bios 5.7
512 ddr cruical

and a old 230 watt psi

bill the fan on my card is runing, and the side is off at the moment the
card is not over clocked at all. I ve just tried Aquamark 03 and the first
time i used it, it was with the 3.7 drivers and crashed the writing and
icons were still messed up. then i tried it with omega 2.4.78 drivers and it
worked a treat then i tried GTA 3 and another quite old game street legal
and these worked fine. but it still won t work very well with FS 2k4 and
unreal tourney 2k3.

going out now to get new power supply 400w one i thinks.

cheers for help

Straight away AMD recommend a 300w psu, with the Radeon I'm sure you would
want a bit more than this.

If you are getting corrupted displays, I don't think it's the power
supply. If your card isn't getting enough power, you would be getting
error messages, black screens, or the system might lock up.

It could be related to a driver issue...left-over drivers from previous
card, or driver install. Since resolving driver issues is a lot cheaper
and less hassle than replacing a power supply, I would suggest you start
there.

Clean out old drivers, re-install Cat, re-install DX9. See what
happens. If you've ruled out a driver issue, then pursue the power
supply (as long as you're sure it's not the card itself...try the card
in another PC if at all possible).

The problems you describe could well be caused by leftover Nvidia driver
files and registry entries. There's a recent thread in this group with the
subject line "Problems fixed with 9800 Pro" that may point you in the right
direction.

At the very least, use the add/remove software control panel to get rid of
any and all drivers and control panels from the old AND new card, then
reinstall the Catalysts. (There's nothing wrong with the Omegas, but all
they really do is change some default settings.)

right everything is sorted the reason was.... I did nt need a power supply
still runing a 230 w psu i did nt need different drivers i used the cat 3.7
the problem was that fastwrite was enabled

problem solved, no more spleepless nights :)

If you're using the latest Catalyst drivers, you can go to start/run and
type SMARTGART. That brings up a test to run and some menu items to enable
or disable, including Fast Writes. It may also be enabled or disabled in
your motherboard's bios settings.

yea in the bios setting thats were i disenabled it. everyting works good but
i must admit when i run aquamark3 with fastwrite enabled it was faster...
