Problem with games on XP sp2

steve

Has anyone got any advice on a problem I am having?

I have a DELL Inspiron 9100, XP sp2 (ATI Mobility 9800).
I am trying to run some older games (Half Life, Tomb Raider
and Neverwinter Nights). The games will not run. When I try the
install for Half Life nothing happens - the CD spins up and
then slows down - but no install. With NWN the install went fine
but when I press play - same as above.

I have tried stopping the firewall, antivirus, anti spyware etc.

Any comments?

Hi Steve,

Try this method to resolve the issue..
Boot into "SAFE MODE" using an Administrator Account:

To get to the safe mode option, Shut Down and then power on your
computer, keep pressing F8 until the Safe Mode menu appears. :)

You should be able to install the software, if not please reply.

Does any CD start when inserted in your CD drive? It sounds like you have
autostart turned off for your drive. Have you tried to start it by going to
Start,Run,then browse your cd and look for a setup.exe file to run?
