Problem with Desktop - help required!

If anyone could help me with this problem, I'd be very grateful! Here
is a screen dump of my desktop...

http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desktopdq1.jpg

The whole of the right of the start menu is blanked out for some
reason, and I can't get to the programs menu. Also, the minimize,
maximize and close buttons in the corner of each window are blanked
out. I have no idea what could be causing this problem. Does anybody
have any suggestions?

Thank you.

to add somethingHi. I don.t know what's causing your problem but here are a couple of things that you can try:

1. Open the Task Manager by right clicking the Taskbar then clicking Task Manager or open it by pressing ctrl-alt-delete keys. Next, click File then click New Task (Run...). This should open the Create New Task box. Type "control panel" (without the quotes) then click OK. This should open the Control Panel. Click on Taskbar and Start Menu. This opens the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties box. Click on the Start Menu tab. Click the Classic Start Menu option then click Apply. See if this shows you all the things that were "blacked out" on your original (default) Start Menu. This isn't a fix but a possible work around.

2. You can try a System Restore if the above suggestion isn't acceptable or doesn't work.

Good luck!

It looks like two different problems, the Marlett font is damaged so the
resize characters are missing. I guess that could mess with the Start
Menu too.. Here is a Google Groups search on the problem and possible
solutions:

One of the following might fix the Start Menu:

Line 117. Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!

Try these: (for your start menu problem)

Right click Start button > Properties > Start menu tab > Tick Start menu
radio button > customize button > Advanced tab > Under Start menu items:
Control Panel, tick Display as a link.

or clear the recent used programs list
On the General tab (instead of Advanced) > Under Programs > Click Clear list
button.

This also may happen if you have a Logitech webcam try to unsinstall it and
see what happens. You may also try to uninstall the software and keep the
driver.
