Problem with copying the Vista 5728 iso file to external hard drive

I downloaded the 5728 iso and checked its MD5 using DigestIT.
The MD5 was correct.
Then I copied the iso file to an external hard drive.
The filesize was correct, but the MD5 was different.
I copied it three times to the external hard drive.
Each time the filesize was correct, but the MD5 was different.
Any ideas?

Copying from another machine to Ext HDD worked OK.
Where it didn't work I had the Ext HDD connected to a USB hub.
Could that make a difference?

Sounds like it did. Try it without the hub.

Tried it without hub. Worked. Are hubs often problematical?

Sometimes hubs don't pass enough power through to the device.
Mice/keyboards, not an issue. I have had problems with a headset/microphone
combo, my wireless gamepad, my webcam, etc... not working properly through a
hub. Never tried an external drive, though.

If it draws its power from the USB port it could be.
A hub that requires an external power supply to operate shouldn't be a
problem.

You haven't said if it's a powered or non powered hub. Non powered hubs can
have more issues than powered ones, but even powered ones can be
problematic. Sometimes it depends on which hub it is. Also USB can be
flaky in XP. They never really got it nailed down to rock solid stability.

Powered - but with the power turned off.
But that shouldn't matter - because the external hard drive has its own
power brick.
