Problem with Copy/Paste into Word from IE 6.0, saving files in XP

Ever since I got my computer, Microsoft Word doesn't copy and paste files normally, like from the Internet. Every other computer I've used has this capability. When I open system information, under Microsoft Word 2002, then under Fields, I see this

These are six attempts to insert the same file. I can't understand why it refuses to show the images. I have tried everything available in the help files

Also, I believe this is related, Internet Explorer will not save images of any other file type than *.art or *.bmp, and even though bitmaps are supposed to be supported, saved bitmaps from Internet images are not supported by any programs. That is, when I go directly to the file I just saved, no program will open it properly. Please help me. Is the problem with Word, IE, or XP?
