Hey,

I recently installed (fresh install) on my computer. In windows device
managers, there is a problem with my communication ports. I get the
following message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported
problems. (Code 43)." The loacation is "Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to ISA bridge
(ISA mode)." I have Intel 440 Chipset. The COM ports were working fine on my
Windows 98. Moreover, I have tried to find the chipset drivers from the
intel website, but the intel website says that Win XP has in-built supoprt
for 440 chipset. I wuold appreciate if someone can help me with my problem.

Thank you and Kind Regards

Is this a boxed, retail Intel motherboard or an OEM version?
For the latter, Intel does not directly support the product
and it might be necessary to load the chipset drivers from the
OEM's motherboard cdrom.

And as a secondary note, just what version of the i440 chipset,
BX, GX, ZX?

Mistoffolees,

Thank you for you response. It is an OEM version. The chipset is BX. Can
you tell me where I can find the drivers. I would appreciate your help and
time.

Thank you and Kind Regards

Is this really a clean install of Windows XP on to a wiped
hard drive? Or, in other words, was any renmant of Windows 98
still on the hard drive when Windows XP was installed? And
I do not have any 440-BX chipset machines running Windows XP
to check on the version of the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI drivers.

Are you trying to utilize the USB ports on the motherboard?
If so, check for a resources conflict and this may be the issue.
