problem with Brother HL 1240

I've recently replaced the toner on the above printer and since then the
print has been feint and there is an even feinter patch running from top to
bottom of the page, more or less in the middle.
Can anybody help please?
I've gone to the Brother help website but it is far too complicated for me
to find my way around - sorry!

It seems to happen on the first page and then it improves!
