problem with a non trusted certificate source

Win98SE IE6 SP1 and all updates
Verisign update installed from their website - getrootcert.cer -
installed

I've jumped through all the hoops with this Verisign business and I am
still getting a warning when logging into the webmail site of my ISP

Since installing the certificate as instructed, the warning has now
CHANGED from telling me that the certificate had expired, to one that
tells me that the certificate is from someone not on my trusted list -
and telling me to install it in the trusted certificate store. (And I
have used the wizard to do that - manually browsing in the wizard to the
trusted certificate store and making sure that the registry and local
computer were selected - and got message saying installation was
successful)
But I still get the warning - with the certificate general tab stating:
"This CA Root certificate is not trusted. To enable trust, install this
certificate into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.
Issued to: mail.btinternet.com
Issued by: www.verisign.com/CPS Incorp by Ref. LIABILITY.LTD.(c)97
Verisign
Valid from 28/07/03 to 27/07/05"

Under Certification Path the Certificate Status states:
"This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification
authority"

What is there I should do that I haven't done?

Is there an approved step by step way of solving this, including any
certificates I need to delete?

This is the only https site that I have this problem with. My banking
for example, and online stores work fine with no certificate warnings. I
had switched off certificate checking in IE around 7-10th Jan but have
switched it back on since all the Symantec/Verisign issues seem to have
been resolved. But I am left with this one - anyone help please?

Many thanks.
