Problem Using Link Bar from One Theme on Page Based on Another Theme

G

Guest

To construct a simple example:

1) Create a two-page web site based on, say, the Afternoon theme.
2) Insert a Link Bar into index.htm . Choose "Use Page's Theme" on the
Style tab.
3) View index.htm in your browser. It will look as expected.
4) Publish the site to a web server and view it in your browser. It will
look as expected.

5) Double-click on the Link Bar and change the style to that of, say, the
Compass theme. Change just the style of the Link Bar, not the page or the
site.
6) View index.htm in your browser. It will still look as expected.
7) Publish the site to a web server and view index.htm in your browser...

This is where I run into trouble. When published to Yahoo, the Link Bar
reverts to displaying as simple hypertext, not the style of the Compass
theme.

Is this the expected behavior?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yahoo supports FrontPage 2002 extensions, which Microsoft indicates is the
version required to support FrontPage 2003:

http://office.microsoft.com/assista...r+extensions&Scope=TC,HP,HA,RC,FX,ES,EP,DC,XT

Yahoo indicates its support of FrontPage 2003 Themes, Navigation, and Custom
Link Bars:

Does your Yoohoo site have FP extensions enabled?
If it does, are you Publishing up to the server as opposed to FTP?
Have you Recalculated Hyperlinks prior to Publishing?

I'm almost out of ideas, one of the guru's will need to step in here.
I have 2 sites on Yahoo servers, and when all else fails I uninstall the extensions, reinstall them again. dunno if that will help you though.

That feature requires Your Host be running the FP2002 SE
File Open Web/Site and enter the URL (then log in)
Tools Web/Site Settings (General tab) to see what version they are running (5.x is FP2002)

Yesterday I deleted ALL files from all server folders and reset the server
extensions. After that, I created and published just the tiny two-page test
site described in my original post. No luck.

Thanks,

Yahoo is running extensions version 5.0.2.2623, which should be good. As I
said in my response to Crash, immediately above, I deleted my entire site,
reset the server extensions, and created just a small test site, with the
results described. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Are you sure you saved and applied the modified theme when you changed to using the other button?

Guys-

The house of some dear friends -- one in which I happened to be a
houseguest -- burned down yesterday. I'll be back here in a few days.

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you saved and applied the modified theme when you changed to

OK. Continuing with my original example:

Customizing the Afternoon theme by explicitly replacing the three vertical
navigation graphics with the images from the Compass theme and saving the
modified theme under a new name corrects the problem.

However, according to what I get from the Help files and some books, this
shouldn't be necessary. That is, I should be able to apply the Afternoon
theme, double-click on the link bar, and simply set its style to that of the
Compass theme. When I did this, as described below, the bar appeared in
simple underlined hypertext rather than picking up the style from Compass.
BTW, I verified that both themes had been uploaded to the _overlay and
_themes folders on the server.

Oh, well.

Thanks, Crash and Stefan.

Are you sure you saved and applied the modified theme when you changed to
using the other button?

It almost sounds like you accidently chose the horizontal buttons in a
vertical nav bar...i've done this many times.

As I said somewhere upthread, Yahoo is running Server Extensions 5.0.2.2623.
Should that do it?

It almost sounds like you accidently chose the horizontal buttons in a
vertical nav bar...i've done this many times.

Hmm. Well, nope. In my real site, the nav bar is vertical and all the
overlay names are vertical; in the simple test site, everything's
horizontal. In any case, I'm not advanced enough yet to mess with the HTML
code, and there's no way in the link bar formatting dialog to make such
choices -- you get only to say vertical or horizontal and to choose the
theme from which you want to choose the button style.
