problem trying to connect to windows update page through IE6

when trying to connect to the windows update page with IE6(version
6.0.2800.1106), I keep getting the following error message in a pop up window:

error:automation server can't create object
code:0
url:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

any ideas on how to correct this so I can access the update page? any help
will be greatly appreciated!

Re-register the Urlmon.dll file
Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.

and/or check your Internet Explorer Security Settings:-
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Click the Internet Web content zone icon.
5. Click Custom Level.
6. In the Reset to box, click Medium.
7. Click Reset.
8. Click OK.

If the above doesn't assist try the WU NG state your OS etc.

thanks for the suggestions, afraid they didn't work though. tried a post to
the windows 2000 group
