Problem switching from Outlook Express to Outlook

Hello -

Could somebody help me with this?

I have always used Outlook Express, but I decided I would like to switch to
Outlook. But when I try to open Outlook, I get the following message (after
the program tried creating a Welcome message): 'The connection to the
Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected
to complete the action'.

I click OK, then I get a box to check my server and user name. They are OK,
I click 'check' names. Then I get the message: 'Unable to open your default
email folder. The file (...) is not an offline folder file.'

Then when I click OK, Outlook shuts down.

I have tried searching through earlier questions and I did find similar
questions to mine. The anwers suggested: removing Microsoft Exchange Server -
but it is the only server option there is. Or: Creating a new Profile - I
tried that, but it doesn't seem to help.

Can anyone help me with this, please? I am a bit stuck.

Thank you,
Iris.

Exchange server is normally used in businesses and schools/universities. You
want to delete that profile (Control Panel > Mail applet) and create a new
profile using your ISP's recommended set up for an internet mail account.

Hi Kathleen, thanks for your answer. I tried creating a new profile. I used
the same server (pop.012) and username that are used for Outlook Express. It
didn't work. Have you any idea what I've done wrong? Do I have to disable O.
Express first?

Make sure you've deleted the profile that was created to use Microsoft
Exchange server.

Here's how to create a new profile:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

Bookmark that site, it's written by one of the other MVP's here and it's
excellent. It will answer almost every basic Outlook question you'll have,
in a way that's easy to understand.

Hi Kathleen, thanks for the link! That's a really useful article, it helped
me a lot... except that I still didn't manage to create a new profile,
because I can't find out what my password is. This probably sounds really
stupid! But I really can't remember what password I chose years ago, and
wherever I try to find it, I only find a sequence of dots, not the password.
I just need to figure that out.
Thanks for the effort, your answers were very helpful.

Are you using mail for exchange? If yes you need to give the deatils over
there. If not you can give POP or IMAP access details over their to
configure your Account. If you are using Gmail or Yahoo you can get the
details & help from Setting or Account info tab.

Oh, like we weren't supposed to recognize that you are a spammer, uh huh.
Well, you got your signature's lead-in correct; however, you forget the "c"
before the "k" in your name.
