Problem switching a device between USB ports

D

Dave

I successfully installed a USB printer on one of my USB
ports. However, if I plug the printer into any other USB
port, Windows XP displays the Found New Hardware message
and wants to install the printer software again.
Everything works fine as long as I am careful to plug the
printer into the same USB port that was used during the
original install. I thought all USB ports were equal and
that any available one could be used. Is that the way it
is supposed to work for all USB devices, or do certain
devices latch onto specific ports?

What you are seeing is normal. A device "latches" onto a port, until
something else is subsequently plugged into that port.

Suggest you label your posts as to what goes where.
